Chicago Study Spots

This interactive map is a consolidation of search results from /r/chicago. I'm still working on separating everything into categories and adding information about hours & WiFi. Scroll further down to see my personal favorite spots.

My Study Location Criteria

1. Space - I like to be able to find a table or desk easily and quickly, and doesn't feel crowded.

2. Goldilocks Noise Level - Not too loud, not too quiet. Generally this means some soft music or just the din of other people talking quietly.

3. Food & Drink Allowed - or tolerated. I really dislike having to pack up just for a snack or a coffee.

Downtown

Harold Washington Library - 400 S State St

M-R 9am - 9pm, F&Sat 9am - 5pm, Sun 1pm - 5pm

Best for weekday studying, food and drink is discouraged but I've never been hassled for a granola bar or cup of coffee. Wi-Fi signal is unreliable so load up what you need in advance. Best seats are at the tables at the windows on the east side of the building on the upper floors, and I haven't personally been there but the 9th floor is more of an atrium and reportedly very peaceful and quiet.

West Town/Wicker Park

Sip Coffee House - 1223 W Grand Ave

M-F 7am - 7 pm, Sat 8am - 7pm, Sun 8am - 6pm

Good coffee and free unlimited Wi-Fi with purchase. Lots of seating space - tables, sofas, and easy chairs. Local art on the walls and hipster music on the stereo.

Lincoln Park

Next Door Chi - 659 W Diversey Ave

Daily 7am - 10 pm

This is a really interesting study location - it's literally intended as a public work/study space. There are sofas, chairs, and tables to choose from for seating plus a small coffee bar with a limited selection of food. Wi-Fi is totally free, no need for a purchase. I've heard mixed things about outside food/drink - technically it's verboten but some report noone really cares.
